The Evolution of Ketones

Ketones are essentially substrates that our bodies can produce when we are low on glucose and glucose storage, like glycogen. So normally the brain uses a lot of glucose. Brain weighs 2% of our body weight, but uses 25% of our daily calorie intake. And therefore we have evolved to create ketones from fat through periods of time where we don't have food.
