Jeroboam's Son Rehoboam

In 1 Kings 14 21, we read that Rehoboam reigned in Judah. He was 41 years old when he began to reign, and he reigns 17 years in Jerusalem. The Bible is famously reticent about adding too many details. So why does it describe Jerusalem this way? Because you do have this contrast between the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom.
