Todor Jipuk was grasping for some strand of legitimacy in a period when legitimacy was waning. Even though they have Turkish schools, those were being slowly organized. Other kind of Turkish rituals were being discouraged or outlawed over the period. And so I think for him, this was part of that. We can't put get there until we do this, until we are all, you know, European, Bulgarian, integrated, modern socialization.
