I think my experience of it has changed because I've become more senior. The academy is based on around academics writing journal articles that most people are not going to read, right? And building a knowledge base that's separate from immediate policy concerns. For someone like me who got into research because I want to help make policy better and help make people's lives better, that's somewhat unsatisfying. But yeah, just at a certain point it feels more stifling.
