When words get shortened, and in the case of Aussie English, almost always end with a vowel. The heavy use of diminatives is one linguistic expression of Aussie informality. And by addressing you with other diminutives, uh, we're including you in our club, as well. Group jargon defines the group. If English speakers from overseas don't understand our abbreviations, that's just because they're not us. So, how the bloody hell did Aussie English come about anyway?
