Apple seems to want to update their Mac SOCs on a yearly cycle just like the iPhone. The iMac skips a generation and goes from M1 to M3 presumably for similar reasons. Apple is, you know, go for it but that doesn't mean they're going to put those updated numbers in every one of their Macs each year. It's still very difficult to pick up patterns in Apple's because it's still much chaos.
