Human captives was the main valuable item that Vikings were able to procure. The captives that they traded it seems were mostly women and they were desired for domestic work as well as for sexual exploitation. These slave captives were demanded by all sorts of people all around Eastern Europe but most especially they were desired in the tremendous markets of the Islamic Caliphate. This Viking voyaging trading and raiding declined in the 1000s much as it did in Western Europe at the same time.
