The Importance of Punctuation in Comedy
Pryor first started performing around Greenwich Village in 1963. By 1966, he's headlining in Las Vegas. The way for the way that he thought and the precedent for a Black comedian becoming successful in a white world was to imitate Cosby. And then he figured out, oh no, I'm going to speak more to where I am at this point in my life and that will create a connection.
