Lise rachner is a professor of political science in the university of bergen. She studies democratization and autocratization, focusing particularly on human rights, electoral politics and political parties. Lise and i discuss whether countries on the african ontinent are indeed facing a democratic back lash. We also briefly discussed how and to what extent, local residence and civil ity organizations contribute substantially to the provision of local public goods when the state fails to do so.
