The Post-Truth Society and the Arab Spring

People talked about the Arab Spring as a kind of phenomenon of Facebook and social media. It wasn't, it was a phenomenon of social media combined with Al Jazeera. The flip side of this is when established leaders start using social media in a more robust and civilized way for their communication. So when some of our ministers are using their Facebook accounts to say things that are perhaps robust but not very civilized, it gets a lot of spread. And it speaks right into that sort of already polarizing political landscape.
