Cheek's Response to Hoby's Translation
Cheek was one of the leading greek scholars in england. In his spare time, he had started to translate the bible into english using this same approach. He wasn't just preparing an english translation like john wickliffe and william tindale had done. He was actually trying to prepare a pure english version with as few lone words from latin and greek as possible. Cheek's reply letter that he wrote a few days before his death still survives.
