Professor Lawrence Goldman is Emeritus Fellow in History, at the University of New York. He was one of the academics who signed a letter in support of Kathleen Stock. Says cancel culture has a very limited and narrow relevance of today. Threats to free speech have been there really since Milton first wrote a famous pamphlet in 1644 on the need for free expression. And that's one of the points that I would make actually, that historically liberal democracy, which we all profess to support, and free speech have gone together.
