I had a dream of somehow combining AI with quantum computing and looking at the quantum versions of all these ML concepts. We're up against a fundamental difficulty that goes all the way back to the beginning of quantum algorithms 30 years ago, which is that if you want an exponential speed up from a quantum computer, it seems to be only for very specialized problems that we can get that. The two really huge examples where we're pretty confident that a quantum computer could give us an exponential speed-up are simulating quantum mechanics itself or deep neural networks.
