Shang Yin: Fear is a natural human emotion. It helps us to survive, alert us not only to real, but also imagined dangers. He says the kind of fear that Shang Yin is pointing to in his encounter with the water buffalo is much more basic, more fundamental to the human condition. And that's the fear of death. Knowing that sooner or later, we all have to confront it.
