Is There a Distribution of Responsibilities and Communication Pathways?

We're the first call on every patient that we're following in the icu. We sort of triage those calls. And if it's something that is very minor, but it falls within sort of the accepted pathway of things, we handle it. If it's something major, then that sort of becomes a discussion. It was always an understanding, if not a rule, that only the person like you or i, usually the i c u a p p, is a person like writing orders for things.
