He did test penesilon's activity against various microbes in a petri dish, including staphl caucus, strapta cacus and numa cacus as well as bacillus diphtheria. But he doesn't seem to have tried injecting animals with one of the bacteria that he knew penesilon killed in aPetri dish to see if that worked in a living body as well.
