In 1998, it is true that Barbara Bush was compelled by this sort of settlement with A.G.'s lawyers to write him a letter acknowledging that A.G. did not reveal the CIA station chief's name in his book inside the company. Hitch made the argument that the true left wing position based on his time writing for counter intelligence quarterly was to oppose the idea that it's illegal to name CIA officers overseas. Even in 1995, Hitch saw himself as an opponent of American Empire. So much so he had the honor of introducing one of the most consequential foes of American Empire in the last 50 years, Noam Chomsky.
