The Stoics' Emphasis on Practice

To know that food is not good, to actually know that doesn't involve just believing that because I read it in the Stoics. You'd have to be tested and you'd have to pass those tests of temptation, let's say. At least for the hard line Stoics, it's only the Stoic sage or the wise person who can know these things and who can act virtuously. It's sort of an all or nothing thing. So even if we're making progress, until we've rounded everything out and reached Stoic sagehood, we're not acting on the basis of knowledge.
