I'm a very, very selfish consumer of culture. I want to know things that will work. i think if people have responded to my work, it's maybe because they too have an urgent need to find stuff that's going to work for them. My books have never sold copies in france. That' surprise. Bless the french. You may not agree with everything i say, but i think the the essential premise, which is the great books the past and the great art works exist now as resources for us to learn how to live and die seems absolutely something we need to hold on to.
