The Domino Effect of Airlines Throughout the 90s

The International Civil Aviation Organization approved a resolution in 1992 to eliminate smoking on international commercial flights by July 1, 1996. In December 1994, eight airlines petitioned the Department of Transportation for anti-trust immunity so that they could work together to plan smoking bans on international flights. Delta, American, United, Cathay Pacific, Singapore, airlines and Virgin Atlantic had by this time already implemented their own bans. Brazil bands smoking on all domestic and international flights; among private carriers, Royal Air, Merock, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, Erlingus, Finn Air, Iceland Air, Scandinavian Air,. banned smoking on all their flights.
