I came from a communist country when I was six years old and found refuge in the United States with my family, it made me 110% pro-American. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, followed by the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 seemed like America could do anything we had won the Cold War. All of that kind of conditioned me when the shock of 9-11 happened to have grandiose expectations of what the United States could achieve in the world. In hindsight I'm realizing that I had a fairly unbalanced view; Americanism became my religion.
