Long Term Large Experiments Are Crucial to Getting Funding

There's nothing like real data. You can have all the models in the world, but you need data to feed the models so that they're accurate. These long term large experiments are crucial. I became quite good at it when I was a young scientist because I was studying forest dynamics and young stands. We knew that we had to have large plots that we followed over long periods of time. And so there's a whole infrastructure associated with doing experiments like that. But every year we've been successful at getting funding. The government is directly wanting our data in real time so they can adjust their planting policies for example.
