Joan Jett's I Love Rock and Roll was a huge MTV hit, and it topped the Hot 100 for seven weeks. The Go-Gos made the radio safe in the 1980s for female rock acts emerging from the punk and new wave scenes. In the 35 years since this moment, the Hot 100 has been commanded by women numerous times, but never a pair of female lead rock bands like this.
