Candy Hinman didn't stay mad at Fred for long. She

noticed he did have some good attributes.
Speaker 2
Tall, good build, dark hair, I think. Just a handsome man.
Speaker 1
She thought an adventuresome friend of hers, Gayle Carmichael might like him, despite the drama over Jean's death.
Speaker 2
He was very attractive and he had such charisma. And she also was that

way. Nothing scared her.
Speaker 2
I had told her what I thought had happened prior, but that everybody else thought he was innocent. Everybody in town was just so upset over what happened to Jean and nobody had any idea that it was related to Fred. And everybody at that time was touting how wonderful he was.
Speaker 1
Fred told an investigator how Candy had played matchmaker with Gayle. And let's be clear, this is Fred's version of their wild first date.
Speaker 2
Shortly after Jean died, she said, you know, when you're ready to, and ask, let's get back into circulation and so forth. She said, well, why don't you consider coming over at the dinner? And I said, okay, I'll say this is a kid's thing, but she said, oh, yeah, so I went over to the kids. And so I went over and this live parking hour over the board, lady pulls up her pink Cadillac. And so, whatever the year was, ran new one. She got out of car and the lights are still on. So I said, you know, the lights are still on. She said, you got a car all turned on top of the minute. Things like that, wasn't it? So we went in and had a fairly still initial type of thing. She smoked and I don't smoke. It was one of those things that happened. I think it would be a little bit of a loop. And I was a little bit apathetic. Well, the evening went on and that's the liquor. We got quicker more or less. I know we had wine and we started with it and we had one fuzzies, which is a cappuccino type of thing. And cream and everything. Maybe no snow. Yeah, they were wonderful. And we had a little bit of marijuana and a couple of joints. And then the rest of it got really great until we were taking each other's clothes off and thrashing about under the coffee gate. Well, I'm going, I don't really believe what's going on. And the other people already left and the kids were obviously already in business. And we tried to get in there. And the hot tub and the hot tub was too hot. We couldn't even have like a hot tub. And then they threw it up the thermostat. So we drove up to my place and spent the rest of the morning and so forth. And I guess it was probably around noon and she finally left. And I can still remember saying, do you think we know each other well enough that I could get your phone number and call you? And we talked a lot that morning about our lives and where we were coming from and all of the stuff. And it was very unusual. I mean, needless to say to have it happen like that. And then...
Speaker 1
Gayle Fred said, introduced him to her psychiatrist, Dr. Paul Remus.
