When the asteroid hit 66 million years ago, this was an apocalypse. Ego systems collapsed like houses of cards. And many mammals could not cope with that either. There are some estimates from fossil record that maybe 90 % of mammals died too. But we had those ancestors that were adaptable and small. That was the winning lottery ticket that got them through the astroid. Then on the other side, well, the world's mostly empty. All of a sudden there's no t wreck any more. There's no triseratops any more. It's amazing to think about it.
