Trump's Impeachment Trial
This case was brought by special counsel Jack Smith who was appointed in November of last year basically shortly after Trump declared he was running for president. Typically when federal charges are filed it can be a year or more until those charges end up at trial. Devlin: I think one of the challenges for Smith's whole effort here is that even when he files charges there's no guarantees that he will get either of these trials done before either the general election or the primaries He may succeed but the system finds ways to slow down and there are a lot of novel issues in this case.
