School of Helis by John Freeman
Mr. Freeman's book, which is titled by the way Schools of Helis with a subtitle an essay on the practice and theory of ancient Greek education is something very close to the quotation That gets passed around and wrongly attributed to Socrates now. I have not as of yet read the entire book school of Helis, but I did spend a couple of days Carefully reading the first two chapters in order to locate amongst other things the exact quote and determine its complete context. He asked the reader to consider this as he says the book was published in 1907 so by any metric I can find it's completely out of copyright in Australia.
