In the ordinary world, you are curated by the culture. When you're in the extraordinary world, the culture is being created by the individual. You have to go through this integration where your ego structure that was provided by the super ego of the culture has to become adaptable to chaos. In the act of going to the bottom of that circle, you then reconstitute yourself into a new self. This is an essential feature of a story because all stories need to establish a pattern in order to break a pattern and rebuild it - thesis antithesis synthesis.
