Everest Base Camp - The Kumbu Glacier

In May 1953, John Hunt and Wilf Neuss set off on a mission to the summit of Everest. The pair are 3,000 feet short of their goal after nine days at base camp. They must now traverse the face of Lotesy in order to build yet another base. Up eight will be at 26,000 feet, right on the edge of the death zone. It takes porters three days to carry each load from base camp via the icefall. But they can't breathe once they ascend higher into the death zone - it's too dangerous.
