Is Debt Better Than Equity?

An SIP in a liquid fund has given exactly as much as an SIP in the Nifty itself. So effectively debt is not worse than equity. If you don't know what to do, just put half and half in both - it's not rocket science. There are periods of at least 10, 15 years where even SIPs in mutual funds have returned less than the equivalent investment in the bond market.
