Accepting Something Is Not How Healing Happens

I think a lot of times people think that to accept something means being ok with it, or finding the good side of it. But in fact, that's not how healing happens. Healing happens when we recognize that whatever happened did, in fact happen. And that acceptance starts the permission that we give ourselves to grieve over whatever experience we went through. So for example, i might be working with a client who is in an emotionally abusive relationship. For that person to truly accept what they are going through, it means to be, to admit to themselves that they're going through emotional abuse.
