Professor of constitutional originalism and the Catholic intellectual tradition. John Henry Newman proposed seven principles to distinguish a faithful development of doctrine, which he calls corruptions. He was specifically talking in a theological context, but those principles could apply in other contexts as well. Professor: For originalists who look at both texts and history, I think the Catholic intellectual traditions focus on text and tradition can be insightful.
