The Importance of Mono Repo in GitOps

I get slightly annoyed when I hear people quote Google in favor of mono repo precisely because Google has the capacity engineering, time wise, manpower to create internal tooling that make mono repo behave as a poly repo. But normal humans, I don't know, you want to adopt a pipeline. Right? You're going to have trouble with mono repo. It reminds me almost like discussion Kubernetes versus Nomad.
