John Avlon: America's identity is a negative identity, meaning we're define ourselves by what we are not. He says that leads to a kind of team sports where you only have any identity at all when you're in a conflict and deciding what you're not. Avlon: We'll find more meaning at the periphery than we will at the center. "We just have to find a way to actually turn it into something that's positive," he says.
