Social Desirability Bias

Social desirability bias is referring specificaly to cases where the truth sounds bad, so people lie. It's not merely trying to be polite but affirmatively saying things that are untrue because the truth is so ugly. Once you understand this idea of this chasm between what people say and what people do, when the truth sounds ugly, you suddenly understand politics on a much deeper level than you ever have before.
