The Dark Side of War Has Goed Underground

No one in place of clear leadership there was paper leadership the rules of engagement numerous codes of conduct and all other directives. There was nothing wrong with these regulations in spirit they were a recognizable expression of the American ideal at war. They simply never became part of the soldiers reality because they weren't ever seriously enforced. Without emphatic enforcement they corresponded as much to the world of the common grunt as road maps of Mars. That total lack of leadership that lack of moral courage has gone underground me lie is no longer a public burden or concern the burden of guilt have fallen onto the soldiers themselves.
