I think that your entitlement to satisfy a need is absolute, but not when it comes at the expense of other people meeting basic needs. So your concern is really with redistribution and comparative need rather than an opposition to growth as such. Is that right? Absolutely right. Hypothetically, there were tough environmental protections in place so that the UK was not using more than its fair share of natural resources. And the democratic aspiration had been vocalised as we want to increase our consumption growth instead of prioritising leisure time. Then sure, go for it, go wild. But you're not in that position.
