The Importance of Listening to Our Responses
An overwhelming majority of responses can often fall into this messaging that implicitly seems to communicate, Well, it might not be the intent. This is a you problem. We don't minimize the distress of an abused child and say, ah, yeah, that reads. Makes sense. But do we offer that for the autistic kiddos or the autistic adults? Or is that what we expect? It's just a spectrum. If we listen, if we take a stroll in someone else's shoes, we may just find that the function is strikingly similar. Our response in those two different scenarios, they're not the same. They're not similar at all. The point isn't to shame ourselves here
