In 1855, Michael Faraday dropped pieces of white paper into the River Thames to see how far they could drop before you can't see them. He found that near the bridges, the feckulents rolled up in clouds so dense that they were visible at the surface. The smell was very bad and common to the whole of the water. It was the same as that which now comes up from the gully holes in the streets. So it was it was poop, folks.
