The Soviet Union and the Crown Service

i don't know whether you ever had the tap on the shoulder neck. But i was actually recruited into crown service after i left, and througha what we will call a disguised advert in a newspaper. And that meant you were in russia when the soviet union fell apart. How soon did you have a sense ofwhat might follow? I don't think we did really. We went through this very weird phase wher we didn't know whether we had diplomatic ommunity. Once it began to unravel, it was clear to us, from talking to people and looking at the economy and so on, that it was going badly wrong.
