John McCarthy coined the term artificial intelligence in 1956 and wonder of wonders 2016 things start to really heat up. Would you mark the third wave of AI as beginning around 2016, 2017? I'm not quite sure it was like third wave or fourth wave because there were so many ups and downs back in the time. So basically we are heading to another direction like neural network back in the day nobody think it really works but somehow it works.
