Why Did the Territorials Be Popular?

In the late nineteenth century, early twentieth century, most of the population lived in grinding poverty that we can barely conceive of. For a lot of young guys, men, full stop, joining the territorials was a good idea because you got fed and paid,. Every year there was a two week training break. It was almost as good as a holiday for these guys. The black watch was established in the aftermath of bonny prince charley's jacobite rebellion to quell the heat of the highlands. They were popular in these regiments because it gave young men something else to do.
