The Role of the State in Consumer Protection

In the 1960s and 1970s, who wasn't that individual citizens were concerned about? It was the state. The corporations worked quite successfully to push that while they did collect data, there was no hard evidence that there were any harms that attended upon this. But what happens between the 70s into the 90s is that idea of the innocuousness of corporate data collection moves from being something that's still sort of a question up in the air to being much more a part of a natural story.
