The Antithesis to Luis's Acceptance of Life
The death of Louise's daughter happens very differently in the short story than it does in the movie. I don't think this is like an anti-science statement from this movie, you know, but I think it is this articulation of this idea that science is not this ultimate answer to how we like engage with life. Yeah, I think Luis depends as much on the science as Ian does, as they make different choices in how to then let it inform their own decision making which I think is interesting.
