I don't think that merely being slighted would have been sufficient. I think it was necessary for these sort of bourgeois negotiators to feel like they needed an alternative. In other World Trade Organization protests, even in the protests that subsequently followed, there wasn't the same kind of recognition or connection and there was in Seattle. A pattern for World Trade Organization and the Ministerials ever since has been to put vast amounts of distance between anyone who's involved in it and anyone who might be protesting it. You can have your protest, but you will never trouble the flow of delegates and capital in the way we were able to in downtown Seattle.
