Modernism and the End of the World

We don't need to have experienced the end of the world to experience a strange sense of time when reading modern fiction. Sometimes we need to think, well, what if none of this was here? What if everybody was gone? How would i act? And how would i think and feel? So mc carthy is a post modern writer.
