Matthew 2, 23 says prophets plural. So that what Matthew is doing is actually referring to Isaiah 11, 1. In Zechariah, there's two passages where Jesus is referred to as a branch. But they don't use the word natsire. They use a synonym for the word branch. And it's not lost at all. It's just that we don't see it in English.
