When we use the word consciousness, is it indicating pure consciousness or one of the conscious events in our experience? No language can refer to pure consciousness. It will work only for a person who's enlightened. You are worshipping God and you are singing a hymn to God, which is referring to you. See, this is the identity of the cosmic and the individual that has pure consciousness. That is the meaning of tatthwamasi or aham brahma asmi I am Brahman.
