The slowing down of the core will change some magnetic fields. It might even change the length of day on the surface, but only by a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of a second. The really hot ones would actually be more of a problem because they might have had all of their water boiled off before they got into the habitable zone. Yeah. Because the really cold ones, maybe they're just melting down a little bit. That could be okay. Are you worried about this layer? I don't know if it's good or bad for life in the galaxy.
