The Bahamas is the latest realm and Commonwealth member to be considering a referendum on switching to Republican status with its only elected head of state. Antigua and Babuda, Belize and St Vincent and the Grenadines have signalled similar steps. Bob Bader slid the way in November 2021 when it removed the Queen as its head of state and became a Republic. More than 30 Commonwealth states are republics, while others like Brunei have their own royal families.
